Me in a Minute – Clinton van Niekerk

  1. Where were you born? I was born in Westville Hospital, Durban.
  2. Who did you last text? I last texted my girlfriend, Ashley, to let her know about the new job.
  3. What do you like to do when you’re not at work? I enjoy reading – I have a huge library in my study at home, which is mostly comprised of English classics and a few personal favourites. I also collect vinyl records that I really enjoy listening to when I am not too busy.
  4. If you were really tired, hungry and dirty – would you choose to eat, sleep or shower first? SHOWER! I cannot do anything if I am not clean.
  5. What are your nicknames? Everyone calls me Clint, excluding my girlfriend who calls me “babe.”
  6. If you had a time machine, would you go back in time or visit the future? I would love to go back in time to watch history unfold.
  7. If you could only hear one song for the rest of your life, what would it be? Hallelujah, originally by Leonard Cohen, but I enjoy the version by Jeff Buckley and the one by Janet Devlin.
  8. If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? I would like to say something healthy because I don’t want to balloon, but I love a good pizza.
  9. If you could go anywhere on holiday, where would you go? I really want to see New York City.
  10. Do you squeeze the toothpaste tube or roll up from the bottom? I squeeze it and then make sure to roll it up neatly when I am done.
  11. Which superhero would you choose to be? I would rather choose a power – to know everything. There is no hero with that power.
  12. What did you do to celebrate your last birthday? I was given an entire day of celebrating by my girlfriend because she loves birthdays.
  13. What is your life motto? “Don’t give up what you want most for what you want now.”
  14. What type of music do you enjoy listening to? I enjoy listening to classic rock from about the 60s, blues (Amy Winehouse) and Swing (Michael Buble).
  15. Tell us something we don’t know about you? My life motto is tattooed to my chest because I failed to live up to it once before and promised to never do it again. It serves as a constant reminder.
  16. Would you rather be ugly and live forever or be beautiful and die within a year? I would definitely rather be ugly. The longer I live, the more I can read and therefore know. Beauty fades and if my lifespan were only one year, I would probably have, at best, a few months of those good looks anyway.
  17. Would you be willing to eat a bowl of grasshoppers for R30 000? That really depends on the size of the bowl. A bigger bowl means more money. But the actual eating I would definitely consider for money; it would just need to be worth it.
  18. If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, who would you pick and what would you do? If I could wake up as anyone, I would definitely choose to wake up as myself. I couldn’t ask for more than the opportunities I already have and I enjoy every moment of achieving my own aspirations. I think it is an invaluable gift to be able to have a life in which one can make one’s own decisions and write one’s own future. I wouldn’t want to be another person.
  19. What cheers you up? Reading, good old music and a cup of tea cheer me up.
  20. Shark diving, bungee jumping or sky diving? I have already been bungee jumping off the highest bungee bridge in the world, which I would do again, so I would now love to go shark cage diving. I have wanted to do that ever since I can remember because the ocean is fascinating and terrifying to me.
